Easter is Just Around the Corner— rain or shine, here’s what Hamilton has to offer for children this

Updated: Jun 12, 2019

In our household we skipped Easter for the last two years because we felt that our little guy was too young to understand what was going on.  We’ve done the same with Santa so far as well.  However, now that he’s over two he seems to be interested in the idea of the Easter bunny this year based on the fact that he requests Easter bunny books every night at story time these days.

I’m pretty excited that I think he’s going to understand enough to do some Easter activities this year— he seems to grasp the idea of surprises and searching for things, so I think an Easter egg hunt will be right up his alley.

After a lot of searching I found the perfect Easter basket at Indigo— it’s a grey bunny cloth basket with glasses.  After some contemplation I decided not to do plastic Easter eggs filled with treats, but to instead buy our toddler a few nice gifts— some books, some toddler scissors, a puzzle, a water bottle and some water shoes for the summer.  I’m going to make some paper bunny “footprints” and lay them out so that they lead to the gifts throughout the house.  Less plastic, no junk food, and items that will have some longevity.

As for what we’ll do to celebrate, other than a few family gatherings, there are quite a few options in and around Hamilton for little ones.  We are super lucky that we have an active neighbourhood association, so we’ll be able to walk over to our neighbourhood’s Easter egg hunt on Saturday morning.  I also put together a list of other Easter egg hunts happening around Hamilton this weekend.  I put them all on my 2019 Hamilton Easter Egg Hunt Map so that you can see which ones are close to you!

I hate to have to even write this— but check with the event organizers before you head out to make sure the event is still on. This weekend’s forecast looks brutal!
